Step 2: Purchase the course you want
When you are prepared to start your IELTS journey, you can enter the level of course you want ranging from “beginner” to “intermediate”, and then “advanced”. You can also filter your search to “practice tests” and “mock tests”. If the purpose for which you are going abroad is academic, then you can select the “academic” option. If you’re going for work related reasons, you can select the “general” option.
Now you can see the various courses that are available according to your search filters. Once you’ve decided upon a course that best suits your preferences, you can purchase that course and start practising.
Step 3: Getting into the study materials and the tests!
Now that you have purchased the course, you can really get into your studying.
The first step in this is to start with your video lessons of any of the four categories: listening, reading, writing and speaking.
Something to be noted here is that only if you complete 20% of the video lessons available, will the practice tests be unlocked. So, make sure that you absorb all the tips and tricks available in the video lessons in order to fully equip yourselves to attend the practice tests. Only after you’ve completed 20% of your practice tests can you attend the mock tests.
Once you’ve unlocked the practice tests, you can see an option “Start my Practice Test” which you can click once you’re ready to take the test.
Step 4: Attending the Test
Once you’ve clicked on the “Start my Practice Test” option, the screen that opens up will depend upon the category of test you’ve taken.
If you’ve chosen the listening category, then it is recommended to use headphones in order to catch what the narrator is saying clearly.
The narrator will clearly explain how you have to attempt each section in the test and the time given to read each section and check your answers. The listening test will usually last for about 30 minutes and will be divided into four sections. Section 1 will consist of a conversation between two people and you need to answer the questions accordingly.
Section 2 will be a monologue, which means just one person will speak. Section 3 will be the beginning of the academic part of the listening test. Here you will hear a conversation between a group of people about something related to education. Section 4, which is the final section, will be the most difficult one. This will mostly be a monologue set in an academic context and might be related to Section 3.
If you choose the reading category, the test will be divided into 3 passages each consisting of various kinds of questions related to those passages. It will take you about 40 minutes to attempt the entire test. The window will be split into two and the passages can be seen on the left-hand side and the questions can be seen on the right-hand side with the space to write the answers. The various kinds of questions that you can come across are
· Yes/No/Not Given
· MCQs
· Matching heading of sections of the passage to the given options
· Sentence Completion and Short Answer Types
· Table, Diagram or Summary Completion.
If you’ve chosen the writing category, then the whole writing test takes about 60 minutes. There are two tasks to complete.
· Task 1: it is suggested that you spend about 20 minutes on task 1, which requires the candidates to write about 150 words.
· Task 2: this task requires at least 250 words and takes about 40 minutes to complete.
If you’ve chosen the speaking category, it takes about 11 to 14 minutes. This usually happens as an interview between the interviewer and the candidate but on our website, you have the option of reading the question and recording you speaking as the answer.
You will be given the chance to test your mic and check whether it is satisfactory. Once you’ve recorded your answer to the question, you can click on submit and even review your answers.
At the bottom of every page of every category of test, you can see a question palette from which you can navigate through the various questions. The questions that you’ve attempted can be seen colored while the ones you are yet to attempt will be seen uncolored.
Once you’ve completed your practice and mock tests and attended all of your video lessons, you are now exam ready to attend the IELTS exam. You can now go to the official website of the IBP and register yourself for the IELTS exam with confidence.
